We’re proud to announce the launch of Plant Futures Certifications, a new initiative designed to recognize and support the next generation of leaders building a just and sustainable food future.


Our certification program begins with the debut of our inaugural course open to nation-wide chapter students: Foundations of a Plant-Centered Future, an 8-week immersive learning experience that explores food systems holistically through the lenses of health, justice, ethics, climate, labor, and communication.This is the first course of its kind in the world, uniting students across geographies and disciplines to explore the future of food through intersectional, justice-driven education. 


🌍 About the Course

🗓️ Course Dates: June 24th – August 12th
🕙 Live Sessions: Tuesdays @ 10 AM PST (2 hours/week)
📚 Independent Work: 3–4 hours/week
💡 Final Project: Institutional change proposal rooted in your context
🎓 Certification: Plant Futures Certificate in Plant-Centered Systems Leadership
👥 Cohort Size: Capped at 15 students
💸 Value: $2,000, offered free to Plant Futures Chapter students


🎓 Meet Your Instructors

Samantha Derrick, MPH, is the founder and Executive Director of Plant Futures, a UC Berkeley graduate, and a seasoned social entrepreneur and public health professional whose work centers on plant-centered, nutrition, food justice, and systems leadership. Her vision for this course is grounded in years of experience with social entrepreneurship, and cultivating youth-led movements and community-rooted solutions. 


Darleen Martinez, Community Relations LatAm Coordinator, Specialist in Transformative Education and also a UC Berkeley graduate, brings over a decade of experience as an International Baccalaureate educator and examiner, with deep expertise in curriculum strategy, experiential learning, and education for liberation. Their vision for this course is grounded in the belief that learning should be practical, embodied, community-rooted, and justice-oriented,
